Bunyip is a railway station on the Bairnsdale V/Line rail service in Bunyip, Victoria, Australia. The station is located on Longwarry Road and is 79 km from Southern Cross Station. The station is in an island format (1 side in use), and the remains of a former goods platform and a crane facility is opposite the single platform.
The track up to the Melbourne end of the station was duplicated in 1956, but the section from Bunyip to Longwarry remains single track due to the bridge over the Bunyip River. The line was electrified in 1954 but it was removed from Bunyip to Warragul in 1998, and from Pakenham to Bunyip in 2005 as part of the Regional Fast Rail Project.[1] However a substation and short section of overhead have been maintained just outside the station.
From 2 June 2010 the station was closed to passengers to enable platform works to be carried out, with a shuttle bus service operating between Bunyip and Garfield.[2] It was originally planned for the works to take three weeks,[2] but the station was not reopened until July 15,[3] three weeks late.
Bairnsdale-bound trains do not stop at Bunyip (running express from Garfield to Drouin), however a weekly Sunday service to Sale does stop.
